Katie and Adam asked me to capture the energy and electricity of the whole day rather than one specific moment. It was so fun finding little nooks throughout the venue to absorb it all and paint the things that made my heart flutter. During their ceremony on the beach in Puerto Rico, all the guests were given little white parasols to help dampen the harshness of the sun. To my surprise, everyone opened them almost at the same time….it was such a cinematic moment it took my breath away and I knew I had to include them in the painting. I stood under an almond tree while painting their ceremony where Desecheo stood proud and smiled back on Katie and Adam. To start their ceremony, they burned palo santo and led the guests in a meditation. In the beginning of the painting, the arbor they stood under made me think of a portal that would fly them into the next chapter of their life. By the end of the night when everyone ended up swimming in the pool, I painted them side by side with their feet in the water, dipping their toes into that portal where their story had only just begun.
